SAINT JOHN PAUL II PTO MEETING
Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Meeting Brought to Order: By Laura Burcham @ 8:05 a.m.

  • Introduction of Officers:
    • Laura Burcham – President – In Attendance
    • Megan Gagliano – Vice President – Missing from Meeting
    • Ashley Aliulis – Secretary – In Attendance
    • Michelle Becker – Treasurer – In Attendance
    • Jacqui Grasso – Teacher Representative – In Attendance
    • Pam Cianci – Vice Teacher Representative – Missing from Meeting
    • June Grasso – Teacher Representative in Training – Missing from Meeting
  • Old Business
    • Donuts with Grandparents: Laura Burcham spoke about the wonderful turnout of grandparents and students we had for the event, stating “We went through fifteen dozen donuts”!
    • Eagle Eye: Ashley Aliulis gave details that all forms had been turned in that day, and that she would be finishing up the Eagle Eye and turning it over to the printer the following week and that it would then be disbursed to students.
  • Principal & Head Teacher Report
    • Mrs. Cathie Puleo, Mrs. Katie Tiefenthal: Mrs. Tiefenthal addressed the parents about students taking the Acadience Tests in both math and reading, scores on these tests should be back in the next 2 to 4 weeks. She also addressed the new policies set forward by Partners in Mission about the PTO/Parents Facebook page and chain of command for questions concerning school work, school related incidences, etc. that would and would not be acceptable to be posted to the Facebook page.
  • Teacher Representative Report
    • Jacqui Grasso: Welcomed parents to PTO and new parents to the school. She talked about the wonderful turn out for Donuts with Grandparents and how lucky we are to have these types of events. Jacqui also talked about Play for the K, an all schools fundraiser that will take place January 25, 2020. She addressed this year’s PTO project of the year, which is to build a new Play Ground. She said that it is something that is needed for the students. Jacqui also talked about St. John Paul II & Kennedy Catholic Family Schools being “A family, community and team”.
  • Treasurer’s Report
    • Michelle Becker: Spoke about each teacher giving the PTO a wish list with items on it for their classroom. Each teacher has $50.00 spent on them and the items ranged from box fans to help keep their students cool, to dry erase markers, chalk, etc. Michelle, also stated that Mrs. Glover would be having an all schools meeting to talk about SCRIP on Nov 1st time TBA.

  • Other News
    • Ashley Aliulis: Announced Head Homeroom Parents and Passed out lists of homeroom helpers to the head parent
    • Janet Taylor, Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs: Janet came down from Kennedy Catholic High school and talked about the importance of connecting the two schools, and making them become one. Janet shared some events with the parents that will be going on at the high school that the elementary students and/or their parents can take part in. September 27th Homecoming bonfire, hayride, face painting and more starting between 7:30p.m. and 8:00p.m. a set time will be announced soon. September 28th homecoming parade and football game. Play for the K will be held in St. John Paul II’s gym on January 25th for parents and adults 21 & over. There will also be the Gala on April 4th that all parents, alumni, etc. are invited too. Janet also stated that all students get into all home sporting events for free.
    • Mr. Vincent Cardamon, President of Schools: Welcomed Parents and talked about the safety of our students. Mr. Cardamon, spoke about a plan for securing the building better and that keeping the students safe is the number one priority.
